- heli bars
- D&D slip on
- ?Tuned suspension?
- 15Tooth Front Sprocket
- Dunlop 208ZR Tires
- low profile Blinkers
- X-ring 530 chain
What are my options and why?
looking to improve Neener, but not sure of what to tweak ... looking for suggestions ...

Because you need power and acceleration. Gear it with a 15tooth front, and maybe up two in the rear to 45 teeth. 520 kits are nice. Sumofallparts on ebay seems to be a popular choice, and they're who I went with.
That slip-on will give you a little power. Your stock can is designed by retarded chimpanzees. It's crap. Take it off and check it out. Next to impossible to breath through. And weighs a ton.

Speed is NOTHING with out the proper suspension set up. Spend your money on a suspension tune. I wish I had done this from the get go instead of wasting money on the frilly stuff.
Pipe would be next in my book then the chain/sprocket conversion.

I have an '01 929, and if I were to change the sprockets, would I have to get the speedo re-calibrated??
Suspension tuning, whats the best approach to this?? Take it into a speed shop, or do you just tweak it yourself??
Cheers

the best money spent on a bike is on suspension. you can go all out and have the best like a hole ohlins setup front and back and have a bike that handles awsome but it might be a little more than overkill. the real deal is to spend money consimate with the skill you have to use it. the most common tweaks are a new rear shock and mabe some front springs. this is a decent chunk of change but will work well for most riders and if you want to dive in latter and revalve the front for more feal or swap out the forks you have not spent to much on the front to go either way. i personaly sent off my front forks to race tech and had the springs and valves changed because i ride track day some times but thought a couple of grand for the newest coolest front forks was a little overkill. also anything you can do to reduce weight will make the bike faster as well as handle better, the best being reducing unsprung weight. ;)

I agree, if you max out your suspension fully, and reduce a lot of weight, you could likely easily outride someone who dumped a bunch of money in their engine and did nothing to the rest...
So trick race forks and shocks, and Carbon fiber subframe/tailsection combos might do more for your lap times than the engine mod....I like it

Yes, you will need something like www.speedohealer.com to calibrate your speedometer.

You don't need to have a full Ohlins suspension. Simply, have some like www.kyleusa.com rework your forks.

Come On Really A Slip On I Dont Think So... Ok I Have A 93 900rr Also And I Have A 919 Bore Head Work Cams And 39 Racecarbs And A Full D&d Carbon Pipe, 2 Teeth Higher In Rear Sprocket. The Bike Rocks With 145hp. Anyway If Anything Look Into A Full Pipe And If U Are Still Looking For More Power And An Awesome Growl And An Awesome Kick Look Into 39 Keihin Race Carbs They Will Run U Around $1200 W/filters And Give U 10-15hp. 2 Teeth In Rear Is Better.. Good Luck

This is the guy who rides 8000 miles every day commuting on his bike. I figured acceleration and ease of passing would be more useful than cornering.
Stock suspension works just fine for me, after a lot of tweaking to get it how I wanted. I don't do track days though, but I do some pretty quick canyon runs. I vote you slide the forks up just a tad and get some serious turn-in. And it'll also allow you to finally hammer 1st and 2nd gear without looking at the clouds/stars. My bike is a blast to canyon ride on, but I can feel the front tire getting loaded up and it leaves me a little unnerved in the back of my mind. Just a little though.
This is YOUR bike. So ask yourself what you use the bike for and what you enjoy the most. Do you do a lot of riding around town or on the freeways? Then a kickass suspension won't be used much, if ever. Power is the way to go. Do you do track days, ride canyons, and things like that primarily? Or is that were you have the most fun on your bike? Then suspension is a pretty good idea and hp might be second, depending on the corners.
$1200 for carburetors to pick up 10hp? $619 for nitrous to pick up 40 - 100hp. :D

thanks for the replies ..
well, i recently got layed off of that job in San Antonio, so no more 150mile round tripper every day ...
The weather finally turned for us here, so it was a beautiful 70degree sunny day. So I just took neener out for her first hill country backroads run, and I must say ... it was fun ... She felt strong in the crisp air, and handled well. I feel like a pu$$y tho ... heh ...
anyway back on topic, can you guys give me some laymans experienced description of how these mods really change the all around ride ... i want the good the bad and the ugly truth ...
-520 chain switch from 530, assuming same gearing ...
-ohlins rear shock
-full pipe, air filters, carb rejet, ignition advancer
-17" front wheel swap
thanx ...

-520 chain switch from 530, assuming same gearing ...
520 less rotating mass, faster acceleration, reduction in longevity. This is all in relation to a 530 chain.
-ohlins rear shock
Price, however, it will perform like no other.
-full pipe, air filters, carb rejet, ignition advancer
Pipe: just trying to figure what you want.
Air filter: no K&N, but check out BMC
Carb rejet: a must when installing a filter and pipe.
Ingition advancer: not neccessary for street.
-17" front wheel swap
Some say increase in cornering stability, others say nothing noticable. Price and time consuming to do. Cost vs. what you get out of it.

I just wanted to emphasize what was just written. The K&N made a couple less hp (2, 3?) on back to back dyno pulls on a 929 I think it was. Apparently our stock filters don't suck too bad at all. Well, the 929 ones don't suck at least. Who knows about the 900. :D Check the fireblades.org site to find out more about the 929 dyno comparisons. It was one of those guys. And I wanted to add that foam filters do great at breathing and will filter wonderfully if you get them sticky. Use a K&N sticky spray and you'll trap dirt and junk. My Uni is great. And infinitely reusable too.
You'll notice some gains with a filter & pipe. But you'll REALLY notice gains when you utilize that extra air and throw a little extra fuel into it & rejet the carbs. Don't rejet a stock bike unless you live waaaay below sea level and you're getting such wonderful air.

i'm not really a super high rpm rider, and i don't want to reduce my low end grunt too much ... how will the pipe/filter/carb rejet affect the powerband of my otherwise stock 93 900rr ...
what is the ignition advancer for ? i see it in peoples list of mods , but your sayin it not for the street ... what does it do ? somewhere i heard it improved midrange power ...
as for the ohlins rear shock ... how will i notice the "improved handling" ?
i am running an RK 530 x-ring chain and it has good life so far ... how reduced is the life of a RK 520 x-ring ?
as for full pipe ... what are your recommendations for the best pipe for an early model 900rr, and as for rejetting carb, what do i needto do there what size jets ... i'm not very good with mechanics, so i'd prolly get parts and take it to shop to put on, test and tune ...

I had a full Akrapovic on mine (race) along with a Factory APK airbox kit/jetting, removed the emmissions, 15 tooth front, Barnet clutch springs, and I think the best thing I could have done above and beyond that would have been the suspension. I always did track days at Thunderhill and would pull in '00 R1's and 996's on the straights (therefore, no rider skill involved).
