I have never done the quarter mile on my bike, but i am going to do it on August 20. Any tips would be appreciated to get it off the line and keep the front wheel down as best i can . I am thinking about buying the straps and i am not looking for a great time because i am a newbe to the game.
Thanks guys.

Strapping the front isn't mandatory, but, It does help a lot. I raced my 929 for a few years, now race my 1000. The 929 was actually more prone to wheelie off the line for some reason.
I always launched the 929 at around 5-6000 and eased out the clutch as I gently opened the throttle. I have lowering links on my 1000 (that take only a minute to change) and I am launching it at around 10,000 rpm. Alot quicker and more consistent too.

Isn't the swing arm on the 1000 longer? And didn't they put in a slipper clutch??

When the front end starts to come up, feather the clutch to bring it back down rather than letting off the throttle. It's easier to keep it from bouncing that way and it keeps the engine in its powerband.

if you are going to go big into drag and serouisly want to lower your time, in my mind the best thing to do for wheelies is a Trac Dynamics swingarm conversion. But feathering the clutch works but it is hard on the clutch. And I think the 1k swing arm is actually shorter but is at a steeper angle increasing pressure.

I don't know how long the 1K swingarm is compared to the 929, but, the wheelbase is a bit longer overall. Also, the 1K makes most of its power up top, so it takes a little longer to get in the powerband. The 929 seemed like it just wanted to flip over sometimes when I got really aggressive. But like I always say at the track, "I'm not here to set records, I'm here to go rounds." I say keep it consistent, the times will come down eventually. Seems to be working for me, with only a few points races left this year, I have a 17 point lead over second place!!

i used to drag a 1200 bandit with the gearing lowered and this was a pig for wheelying (i could actually do sub 14's on one wheel) the best piece of advice i was given was to short shift into second this should eliviate all the wheelie problems......... unless of course you want to wheely
