I am not too sure how that scenario will work. I know if you put a 190 on the 5.5 wide rim you will NEVER get over all the way and the profile changes. The 6.0 wide rim (like you have) can use a 180 and from what I have heard it changes the profile of the tire for the better. Kinda gives you a better "drop in" angle for more tread surface???

Ask gixxerkiller, I think he said something about running a 180 on his 929??? I think he likes it to.

My buddy does it on his GSXR 1000 and likes it.

Laters.

I love the 180/55

I won't go back to a 190 after getting used to it; try it, you won't regret it. From what I know, the Erion edition 929 came with a 180/55 on its 6" rim stock, so it is fully compatible and works great.

great feedback. ,, the reason i asked is because one of my boyz had it on his rc51 and used it for only 300miles, and i guess he picked up on some race tires for track day. i just want to make sure its compatible and wont affect me in a negative way. plus i need to replace my tire , it has to plugs in it...... he sold to me for $50, so i guess it wouldnt hurt to try it...

I am afraid that I am showing my age!
With "only" two contact patches to depend my life on, I choose new tires each time. It is probably(what am I saying probably! ) mental.
I like the idea of new rubber each time, so I don't have to worry about that part of riding!:)

definately agree. however the tire is an 9 out of 10. so its in excellent condition plus i only need it for a couple of months so i can save some cash for new race tires, break pads, chain sproket etc. im getting ready for star school.

I have tried both on my 929.

It's supposed to be a little quicker on the turn in with a 180/55, but I cannot say I noticed. Downside is a little lower tire footprint and less grip. Can't say I noticed that either...

However, the tire diameter can be pretty different, a 180 metzeler is like having an extra tooth on the front sprocket. That I noticed.

well less grip i cant have, im sliding around on the pilot powers i have on right now.. that wouldnt be a good thing i guess.

Give it a shot. You won't lose any grip. I'm running pirelli dragon supercorsa track one offs. They work great, and I have never had them lose grip. I don't think you will lose any contact patch with a 180 setup.

the 190 will turn in faster and be less stable at lean.......the 180 will be more stable at lean but not as fast on turn in......profile change....smaller tyre on a wider wheel provides more foot print....not less....making cornering less scary.........tyre pressure plays a factor to the pp tyre should be at 34 front and 38 rear......no need to air down for track days.......we usualy go up on the pressure through out the day on road tyres......

good info, really appreciate it. once again i only kneed it for a couple of months until i save some cash for some pilot race, im attending the star school at streets of willow, so im trying to save as much $ as i can to bring my bike up to par for that day thats y i just bought this used 180... i just wanted to make sure it didnt effect me in a negative way. compared to the tire i have on right now w/ 2 plugs in it, ill go ahead and put it on.

pilot race compound should be soft front and medium rear for the 900 series
pressure recomendations are 30 to 32 front 20 to 25 in the rear

never check mine...........the pilot race likes to run lower than most...so lets see......last time at willow it was about 67 degrees.....my front was 32 and my rear was at 25....ran the whole day like that...no tyre warmers.........

give me the track you plan to run and a ruff estimate of temp and i will load it into my tyre program for the pilots and see what it spits out.....cool?

bottom line, bigger tire, bigger contact patch. wider tire, a lot more to turn. a 180 will dive better in a turn while a 190 takes a little more-ass by the rider to get all the way to the side of the tire. and just as a note for everyone out there, the new pirelli corsa's are the **** for track dayz

who ever told you that is blowin smoke up your arse....a 180 tyre on a 6 inch wheel is flater than a 190 on the same wheel....no bull the 180 was developed for a 5.5 inch wheel not a 6 inch to get the same profile as the 180 on a 5.5 the big 4 had to develop a 190 series for the 6 inch.

the 190 tyre on a 954, 929, any liter bike will provide a faster rate of turn which can cause instability

putting the 180 on the liter class slows the steering because the profile is flatter which creates more contact patch and stability.

the 180 on the 6 inch wheel taks more work to turn than the 190.

don't belive me....go to the track and talk to the racers not your buddies or the track day people. remember 1 thing all the 600 class race bikes are running 190 series tyres....hmmmmm slower turn in??????? don't thing so......

best get the proper facts

the race department says pilot medium front and rear at 28 to 31 front and 20 to 23 at the rear

you will have to play with the pressures a bit.....i belive michelin will be there to provide support to....go with the 180 in the rear and stay with the 120/70 in the front....you may need to adjust your suspesion a bit out there to.
