I'm looking for a good set of tires, any recommendation? last week when i got on the freeway i heard a loud boom and pulled over to check my tires and everything looked fine and got on the bike and started riding again. after a good one mile i felt the bike bouncing and going left and right so i pulled over again and saw that my rear tire was going flat. my bike rolls on metzeler m1's and one thing i noticed with this tires it takes awhile to warm up. need suggestions on brand and size. i like to lean the bike all the way when taking corners and on ramps. need more contact on sides rather than having a rounded tire.

If you have a 17" front tire, get Pilot Powers. End of story. :D

If you have the dreaded 16" front like me, um... There's a thread Gixerkiller just started recently with top choices for tires. Just do a search for tires in the search bar above...

pilot powers 180 in the rear will provide MORE stability but you will run out of tire edge sooner and it is a little slower to turn.

the pirelli diablo tyres are good to as they are rated at the #2 slot

but why settle for #2 when you can have #1 THE MICHELIN PILOT POWER!!!!

just got the pilot powers installed. 190 rear and the 120 on front. brand spanking new and this tires have grip, and of course since they are brand new they lean aggressively just like any new performance tires. couldn't resist so i started taking those freeway entrance and exits in full lean angle! i know it's a stupid thing to do with brand new tires. with the metzeler m1's i didn't have the confidence to do this when they were new, not even when the tires are cold. but with this pilot powers, didn't even have to warm them up and you can tell the difference. good thing i changed my mind at the last minute co'z i was trying to get the dunlop qualifiers. but the salesguy made me get the pilot powers.

edit:

drove the bike to work this morning. current temperature is 57*F. mileage on tires, <50 miles and i already leaned the rear tire all the way at the edge of the right side. left side i still have about half an inch to go. and here's what i've noticed:

1. Road noise and vibration is a lot less.
2. superb grip even without warming them up. But I’d still recommend warming them up just to be on the safe side.
3. bike brakes better. It feels like I have a new brake system. It stops quickly and I don’t think of the tires might loose traction anymore, used to have that feeling all the time with previous tires.

Only downside I know is the price. But hey, I’d say they’re worth every penny.

Nicely done. I'm still waiting for the first complaint about them, haven't heard a single bad thing... yet. They're like the Holy Grail of tires it seems...
