Tachometer quit working but everything else worked in the cluster. I hit the high beam and it jostled the needle. I turned the high beam off and tach started working again. Got on the bike and it worked fine today?? ideas??

Check your ground wires!! Has it happened again, or does it do it again when you turn on your high beams??

Where are the ground wires for the cluster or in general?

Sooooo, starting to have electrical issues, eh?

Sounds to me like it is time to go over the electrics with a fine tooth comb. Do a search on here to find some good step-by-step instructions. It will be time well invested (plus you will get to know your new friend a lot better).

So I forgot to mention battery wasn't holding a charge well. I replaced the battery yesterday and all seems well with the world. Load test showed old battery toast. Theory is that lack of steady current was making the tach freak out??? Sound resonable

With any luck the battery solves your problem IN THE SHORT TERM ...

... but I don't believe it would be the root cause of your symptoms.

Most other people had the same reaction , i.e. "fix the ground problem". If I was in your shoes I would at least confirm that there was no ground problem.

Check your stator and R/R as well! But I never thought about the batt running low might just short out some of your electrical systems cause of the low charge.
