Is this a realistic mod? I've got to say it looks awesome on the cbr. Does anybody know what goes into this modification--any pointers would be great!
Thanks

It is a cool mod, but you end up adding more weight to your bike.

No-Mercy has all the scoop on the conversion. He has been too busy to post, but said if you PM him he will get back to you.

Something to consider, Ducati moved away from the single-sided swingarm because the tire deflects as it goes around turns. With a conventional swingarm the axle is held on both sides so the tire is less effected as the bike leans onto it's side. With a SS swingarm it is impossible to be totally rid of such flexing. Of course on the other hand how many championships did Ducati win on the SS swingarm?

I Have Been Hearing That A Sssa Is Taken From A Vfr 800 And Modified To Fit. Doing This Is Once Again A Prefrence. Is Your Bike A Track Day Weapon That You Are Trying To Press To The Limit Or A Bvld Cruser That You Want To Look "pimp" It Will Add Extra Weight And You Are Messing With The Unsprung Weight Which Changes Handling Alot. The Shock Was Not Enginered For This Setup And You Might Have To Spend Some Extra $$$$ Trying To Set Up The Suspension To Compensate For This Mod. If You Cruse With Your Buds And Are Not An All Out Performance Freak Go For It If Not Mabe Look Elsewhere To Make You Bike Stand Out.

I completed the conversion less then a month ago. #1 DO NOT USE A Sssa from a VFR 800 it is to wide to fit the frame of a CBR and the machine process is way expensive. you will have to make sure it is off a vfr 750 94-97 these years will ensure that the shock for the CBR will bolt right up. #2 decide if you want the stock rim for those years, a vfr 800 rim has the same bolt pattern but will require a little modification. Also the stock chain and brake line will not fit and you will have to order or get new ones. a 20 x 25 x 2omm spacer will also have to be made for the swingarm bolt on the adjuster side. All in all it is not a hard mod to do it does require a machine shop and some time. click on my avstar and you will see how it looks half done.
