I went a little nuts tonight and started weighing everything I have off the bike....

1994 CBR900RR Standard coils and spark plug wires (with brackets and hardware) 1lb13-3/8oz

2006 CBR600RR Stick coils with wiring harness 1lb2oz (An 11-3/8oz weight savings and 1hp on the dyno, not to mention more room with less parts)

Charcoal canister (smog - being removed) 1lb12oz

Heat guard with rubber flap (over cam cover, under airbox) 7-3/4oz

JT Steel sprocket 530 pitch & 45T (JTR302.45) 2lb11-3/8oz (May purchase an aluminum 520 conversion after weighing this!!!!!!!!!!!)

It would be really fun to have one of these and ditch everything on it but what is needed... See how much weight I could lose....

its certainly possible to ditch alot of small parts, or replace fairings with lighter material fairings.
Is that a significant weight saving?

ive got 2 9rr's one is basic stock set up.. then there's my "fightr".. much lighter.. can really feel a dif in the weight prob~ 25lbs lighter. if it wasnt needed i ripd it off.. kinda feelz like it should b kick start:skep::Laughs.
i need to invest in some light weight wheelz 4 the bodied 900.. it already has awsome susp.(fox shock/reworked forks) marchesini 16/17 setups arent easy to find but when i do then that will really make that bike handle great

You will save some weight with an aluminum sprocket, but how important to you to save money - as in, replacing it 4x more often? Aluminum sprockets have VERY short life spans. :z

I got a combo steel/aluminum SuperSprox sprocket, it's the best of both worlds...

For the amount of miles I am riding I probably will not notice. I have read about many riders getting 10,000 miles on the hard anodized Vortex aluminum sprockets. That is fine for me, as it will probably take two or three years to build up that many miles....

We'll see. I am looking into flywheel lightening too...

It was a reasonably common mod to fit a K-series GSX-R alternator into the old 400cc hondas as they made more power and weighed significantly less due to some or other new type of magnet material. Sorry that isn't much detail, but it would be mentioned on www.400greybike.co.uk if you can be bothered to search for it.

I'm most interested in weights of various honda wheels. I want to fit 17" front to my 98, which I know is a massive PITA. I would prefer the look of 6 spoke, but wish it were easier to clean like a 3-spoke. Whatever I end up with, there will be a thread of course.

edit: have a little look here - you may have to register?

Thanks! I emailed that guy...

I pulled more smog equipment off the bike tonight, there is no end to it all! I will have to weigh it also....

Going to have some block off plates made tomorrow....

I have a lot more smog stuff to weigh, but I got my Vortex Race stands in today and pulled the wheels off. So, I thought I would weigh some drivetrain parts:

43T OEM Rear Sprocket 2lb 8-5/8oz
OEM Steel Sprocket Nuts 3-5/8 oz
16T OEM Front Sprocket 10-3/4 oz
530 RK LFO Chain (Stock Length) 5lb 6-3/4oz

Total stock drivetrain weight
8lb 13-3/4oz

Can't wait to weigh the Vortex stuff and my 520 chain!!!

I'm putting my 9 on a diet as well. With 2 gallons of Sunoco and full bottle of juice, it weighed 440 lbs. Blackbird engine weighs about 20 more lbs. I'm taking the bird wiring harness and stretching it out on the floor and removing anything that doesn't make it crank, start, run and stop. I did that to my 1000F, you'd be surprised how much a bunch of wire weighs.

I won't be going too far. I still plan on having all the reflectors and stock signals on. It is too original to change too much... :)

I just did some preliminary measurements, and it looks like I will lose almost 1 pound on the 520 chain conversion alone!!

If I can get weight down to 420-425 range...and make around 100 ftlbs. then go with the 1195 kit, remove balancers, and a small sniff of spray, look out. That thing will eat even the meanest Busas for breakfast then pick it's teeth with the remains. Who says an old bike doesn't have new tricks.

LOL...

That shouldn't be too terribly difficult. Then again you have things stretched and more hardware on that I do....

I would try to lose it in wheels, fairings, and gas tank if I were you and I had the money....

Mine is staying mostly stock looking....

Tank has been minimized as much as possible, wheels are out (just got some chrome ones recently). Will have to do it with little stuff. I'm gonna have to do like you and start weighing.

How did you minimize the tank weight? Fuel petcock?

yeah and lighter gas cap.

Or a lighter material or smaller tank?

LOL...ya'll remember this is a specific purpose machine now. I cut 3" out of bottom of stock tank and run a small plastic tank. The tank you see in pics is just an empty shell. I plan to either have a bottom welded into shell or get an aluminum fuel cell made later, but isn't a priority right now.

Airtech makes kevlar tanks, plus you could get a Vortex gas cap... That is weight up top, so it would be beneficial in the turns to lose it...
