View Full Version : I think I am going crazy

I have had my 900 since new, I had the motor built mildly when new, I had the motor rebuilt a few years ago, and added 39mm flatslides, it put down 130 H.p. I used it for three races, and put it away a couple years ago after having the suspension rebuilt.
Here is the crazy part, I decided last week, I want to race it again, so this weekend I sent the bike from Dallas to Tucson. I sent it to a shop called ESP, they found me some new HRC cams, they are going to go 2mm overbore and are getting a billet crank and Carillo rods. Thats it for the motor, the head already has been done.
Next on the list we are getting an new Ohlins shock and Dan Kyle is making me a 25mm cartridge kit for the front end.
I dont know why but this bike deserves everything it gets, I hope to have it done ASAP, so wish me luck, this should be fun. ;DOH

So you're dumping a shitload of money into your bike to make it perform better. Where exactly does the "crazy" part come into play? That sounds perfectly normal as far as I'm concerned.

Just the part where I am redoing all new stuff. The suspension has zero miles on it, and the motor might have 200 miles on it. I agree with you though.

Wow, I'm envious! HOw much the the HRC cams set ya back? (If you don't mind me asking) :o

I guess I should add that if anyone is looking for an aftermarket shock, I will be selling an Fox shock that has been rebuilt and is set up for an 190 lb. rider. I will start a new thread in the classifieds, but if anyone reads this and is interested, PM me and we can work something out.

If you put it on the dyno again let us know how well it does. Johnny

Yeah, it will be back on the dyno when it's done.

The only thing I am confused about is why you would put away a perfectly good bike... ? :)
Do you just have a lot of bikes laying around so you rotate them?

Is it a twin clicker?
Mikeo
January 26th, 2010, 09:51 PM
Well, yes, I do have a lot of bikes, but the class I was racing got canceled. I have since, moved to Dallas and the "old" bike class is pretty big, so I am going to race it again.

Is it a twin clicker?
Yes.

Anyone still running the stock shock on their CBR should JUMP on the Fox! They no longer make motorcycle shocks, but will still service them, as will Race Tech (among others).
I was running a Lindeman Engineering-modified stock shock on my bike, and switching to the Fox made a massive difference!

Cbr900racer, do you still run your bike on the street, or is she street only? Guess rear suspension would be pretty darn important for a drag bike, but I'd never really thought about it much... Do you run a hard or soft rear shock at the strip?

She is all business:Laughs I'm the 3rd owner and I think it's only been registered once. She has spent her entire life at the strip. Shock needs to be pretty soft on the launch, then stay down til 330 ft or so then try and rebound. It's a science that I've never mastered. The first twin clicker I had was set up pretty good but it started leaking and I never had it rebuilt. I have an F3 shock in it now. Shock setup is as important as any motor mod. When I was running 5.80s on the spray, I could've easily turned some 5.60s with right shock.

Dang Mikeo, that Fox is VERY tempting. I'd have to get another spring as roadracing springs don't fare too well on dragstrip.

Well, the shock is at ESP, maybe we can swap out the spring for you ;) I will talk to them and see if they even have anything that would work, yo know, just in case :D
