Lately when I get on the gas I get this clunkclunkclunkclunk in fast succession until I get off the gas  . It seems to come from either the front sprocket or rear. Helmet law in Vermont, hard to pin-point the noise. Sounds too bad to repeatedly make the bike make the noise.
Does it hard in first and second. Can do it in 3rd. I have not looked into it much yet. Thought I would ask here to give other ideas of where to look.

1. I figure maybe clutch, but no slippage and I am talking CLUNK. However; if I am cruising with the bike and don't grab a handfull of throttle, it doesn't do it at all

2. Maybe I have fried the front sprocket and the chain is slipping. Anyone have this happen? Sprocket has 6-8K on it, I guess.

any other ideas?

Does the sound get faster as you go faster?

Probbaly a bad chain... how old is it?

Nah, pretty much stays the same speed. But it feels like the bike studders as it does it. Could be chain, but what would be making the sound? The chain slipping? I have taken the slack out of it earlier this summer. I'll check dat too.

Oh, sorry. Factorychain, so 'pretty old. Speedo reads 18k but it is only about 15 or 16k

Pretty sure you need to replace that thing.......

how about worn sprokets?

I figure it may be the chain or front sprocket. I'll get it figured out one of these days.

Check your engine mounts and see if they are properly torqued and your sprockets in alignment with each other. If the engine got out of alignment or the wheel not centered then the sprockets could bind the chain.

Well figured out what the problem was. Well half of the problem maybe . . . rear sprocket is missing most of the top of the teeth  . Ain't that just B. . . E . . A. . . utifull.

Anyone know of good aftermarket sprockets? These were AFRAMS and they only lasted 2 summers. I usually oil my chain everyother ride and barely do I ever ride in the rain.
