954 in a 929?
Is this a doable swap? I just found out my #4 cylinder is 110psi on a leakdown as compared to 185-190psi for the other 3 cylinders. Real nice for less than 9k miles. Anyway a 954 swap sounds interesting. Has anyone done this, will it work? Anyone know where to get a used 954 motor? TIA

That is a interesting question. I would think the mounting would be different since they change the design of the bike. I am sure it is doable, especially if you have enough money. ;)

Re: 954 in a 929?
Have you considered getting your 929 engine rebuilt? You can bore it out 1mm to displace 954cc. Add cams, some compression, a pipe, and a PC-III tuned on the dyno and you'd end up with a bike that looks like a 929 but outperforms a 954.
All that work would probably cost less swapping in a 954 engine. |
Re: 954 in a 929?
Very good point Matt. I would suggest this too. It is more than likely to cause you less headache in the long run.

Re: 954 in a 929?
Bore & rebuild. Erion racing is supposed to make some pretty trick parts for our motor.

Re: 954 in a 929?
:D I've done it, me and my friend got all the parts off a 2003 954rr and put it back together on a 2001 929rr frame everything fit just fine.

Re: 954 in a 929?
rossi jr...question since I am doing that exact swap this weekend...did you use the 954 computer? wich wiring harness did you use i.e. can you just plug in the 954 computer into the 929 harness and finally did you need to use the 954 swingarm? or any other info I need would be great.. :)

Re: 954 in a 929?
yes you need all the 954 parts for it, don't forget to get the airbox if you're swapping plastics as well, because the tank off the 954 wont fit with the 929 airbox sorry for the delay..... :D

Rossi JR, did you do a dyno pull/run? And, what sort of induction are you using....CV or flatslide carbs?
