I cut my chain off a while back to start the rebuild on my bike. I now need a new rivetted link to put it back on but don't know what size it is. I'm pretty sure it's standard but can't remember what I've fitted.
It's definately a DID ZVM X-ring and on each plate it says "50 ZVM". Does this indicate a size or, if not, exactly where do I need to measure to find whether its a 520, 525 or 530 as no dimension on the chain is exactly one of these!! Thanks for any help, The Bear. |

![]() Sorry, Dean, I guess I beat you to it... When i get home, I'll measure mine, I know mine's stock for a 1998. Unless you get the answer sooner, which is highly probable...

Maybe I've been living in a cave or something but I never knew that was how chains were measured, I always assumed 525, for example, meant 0.525". But it actually means 5/8" pitch and 5/16" (25/80") width. Well now I know!! Thanks to all.

I'd be careful about those chain issues and sprockets. I just went through that crap.
Around thnaks giving I decided(probably my second mistake) that with no knowledge of when the original owner changed the chain, I'd do it. The manual says that a '98 900RR uses a 525 chain and appropriate tooth counts front and rear. I called several places and found nothing but comedy, consternation, and miss information on chain and sprocket sizes. It appears that the chind size was changed between '97 and '98. The best infromation that I can get is that the '97 is a 530 and my '98 is a 525. There is a whole lot more furtilizer around getting the parts. Itwas an education. Ride Safe. Dave Martin rolleyes:
