Frame and Wheels (colours)

Im about to do SOMETHING to my frame and wheels tomorrow, i just cant decide WHAT to do. A pic of my fairing colours are at the bottom of this page http://www.rrzone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2271

I was originally thinking mirror polish on it all, but DAAAAMN cbr rims suck for polishing lots of crevices and sharp joins, and my frame is really scuffed and will need filler, hence the polishing will suck... And black will require less looking after. But then again its not as good for parkin lot pimpin :P lol

So my options for my frame and wheels are

- Matte Black
- Satin Black
- Gloss Black
- Semi polish /w black centers
- full polish
- Any combination

So what are your thoughts? what would look hot ?

Powder coat them !!

That is what I'd do if I could afford it. Especially the rims, must stronger than paint.

I always liked the flat black powder coat for the frame and for the rims add a gloss to it for the shine factor

got the rims hooked up for a sandblast next week

goin gloss black .. i liked the idea and a pic of a 05 gix i saw with them sold me on it, oh baby! still cant decide on the frame tho ...

I agree......it looks really good on my bike!!!

I was toying with polishing the edge of my rims but I thought I would get them powder coated first and if I didn't like it I could always polish them up later. Don't think I will though.
I think gloss black rims (and flat black frame if you do it) will contrast nicely with the copper/red colour of your bike.

I found some cheap powder guns and i think i might try DIY powdercoat ... the prices around here suck! sandblasting isnt bad but damn the powder hurts lo!

Anyone done it? seems eay nuff

Oh and bear i want your bike

(regardless of the paintjob thats hawt)l

You'll need an oven to back on the powder coat. Stinks to high hell from what I have heard and prtty much destroys a home oven. They do make powder coating for home use but they did recommend getting a schwag oven to bake it

Did my frame in the black Mini-Tex (same coating as on the new literbikes, and on HD motor parts). Well, I didn't do it personally, but a 'notorious' powdercoater who shall remain nameless did it while I watched closely. I absolutely love the black minitex and I have received a LOT of compliments. Unlike a polished frame that's like a demanding significant other (LOL), the minitex frame needs absolutely NO maintenance and is extremely durable.

Small parts are ok to powdercoat DIY, but frames are hard. The powderecoating itself is not difficult, but the curing is a son of a bitch! Unless you have a BIG oven, you just can't fit a frame in there. The powercoater I used had a portable Infra-Red propane powered heat lamp, and we hung the frame from a rafter s we could both coat and cure it without touching it. The frame took about 6-8 hours to cure (I forget how long, but it was a long time). But it didn't smell bad from what I can recall.

If you need a powdercoater who does great work and is not expensive, PM me. I won't give you the details of the first guy I used. The second guy I used does better work, and he's fast too.

Thanks blokes, i will see how it goes, i seem to be running out of money, and if i waste too much more on the bike im gonna miss out on snowboardin this season ... so powdercoat might have to wait :'( but i dont want it too! lol

Question for you tho, you can only powdercoat things that are conductive right? so body filler is a nono and metal filler would work? or am i way off base

i say go yellow all the way with black 6mm stickers around the outter lip

I used JB-Weld on my frame where I converted my bike from a one hold tank to a two hole tank, and the powercoating adhered to it, and has held up just fine.

Since powdercoating cures at around 400F, I'm not sure you want to expose body filler to those kind of temps anyways.
