I dont have any experience with the Castrol stuff but I stay away from any synthetic oil in my bike cuz it makes your clutch slip. I ran Bel Ray rxp semi synthetic in my old bike and my clutch still slipped. Never bothered with synthetic again. Sucks too cuz Im a firm believer in synthetic oils. I run Mobil 1 in my Camaro and Castrol Syntec Blend in my truck.

Dunno about the R4 or GPS, but I've run Castrol Actevo 20/50 forever and love it.
Take a chance. Worst case scenario, your clutch slips for the next 1000-1500 miles, and/or until you swap. Oil's relatively cheap. I'm a longtime Castrol lover though... Just my 2¢.

I am not even going to touch this one by more than saying "Don't run full synthetic in your bike."
And that's the way it is..... (Best impression voice)

I don't have any experience with Castrol Motorcycle oils, either.
I have run Specro 10W40 blend, in every motorcycle (street) that I've owned, and never had any trouble with the clutches. Just my .02.

I run AMSoil (I think it is synthetic) no problems with it. In fact I think the gear changes feel smoother than the Golden Spectro 4 I used to use

We've discussed oil fairly completely in the past.
If someone is better than I am with the search function of the site(Jawhn? please?) you'll find what I believe to be a fairly complete discussion of the topic. I've come to the idea(thanks Gix) that synthetics work well either for racing uses or once the motor has over 12K or so on it. I used to swear by Castrol back in the "days" before the oil companyies started screwing around with it to please cars and milage. I do change oil approximately every 1000 mi simply because it's cheap insurance and yes, I change the filter at the same time(always). After experimenting with several "natural(I think parafin base)" oils, I find that Honda burns up too fast. While repesol for me is hard to find it does well thought expensive compared with other oils that perform as well. I realy like what spectro 4 10-40 does and the price isn't bad. I have just tried Maxim and while not impressed not displeased and the price is certainly right in this area of socal. The problem is that when I look at id charts and qualities it doesn't register on those charts the way that either Repesol or Spectro do. |

Synthetic doesn't make your clutch slip...........only oils containing molybdenum.......

Some do, some don't....you'd have to read the label, if it says anything like "energy saving, or conserves energy" it probably does...

I know my opinion does'nt mean two shits here, being I'm new and all. I have personally run castrol for years, and then I got turned on to amsoil. I have put in both bikes a 2000 f4 and now my 07 1000rr and all I have to say is damn!!! It's worth the money. The f4 reved easier, pulled harder, and shifted easier. The 1k was due for it's first service and amsoil was put in, the bike now has 1200 miles on it and I can feel a difference in that one too. Just my

I have ran a verity of oils and my favorite so far is the Castrol GPS and the R4 synthetic my yammy has about 20k miles on it and that is on the GPS it comes out clean everytime I change the oil and shifts smooth as butter compared to non synthetics. Now this go around in my 900RR I put the Repsol 10-40 4t synthetic and it seems real nice just like the R4 or the GPS I have had 0 problems with my clutch slipping on both bikes the 900rr has a soft feeling clutch but I think that is becuase I didnt resoak the clutch plates when I put the case covers back on after it sat for almost a year
. But I recomend you go ahead and try a few different kinds and see what works for you and as long as it is for a bike you shouldnt have any clutch slipping issues or related issues. I would say the GPS for the street and R4 for the track and I would change the R4 more freqeuntly well I did when I used it.

Hey moderators! Any chance you can set the minimum word length to search on to 3? Here's what you get when you try to search for oil:
The search term you specified (oil) is under the minimum word length (4) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer. If this term contains a wildcard, please make this term more specific. There have been several discussion on oil. Unfortunately they're kinda hard to find using the search.
