70-80% of all engine wear occurs when the engine is cold. This is because engines are designed to have proper clearance at operating temperature before that the clearances are greater. Now to qualify, I wouldn't say it's dangerous or unsafe but I always let my bike heat up to about 140 degrees before riding.

This is also true due to the oil has settled in the pan. When you first start your engine it takes a few seconds to get the oil pumping through out the engine.
But to answer you question, yes, it is bad to rev your engine when you first start it.

I am not allowed to leave my bike running til it warms up as my landlord lives next door and it wakes him up as I leave early for work. I usually just start it and ride. I do take it easy for the first couple of miles is this ok?

im kinda in the same situation. when i stay the night with my girlfriend her neighbors complain alot about my bike. i have a two brothers can and its pretty loud at around 2500-3000. its a lot louder than what it is at idle. i almost had to fight her neighbor cuz he came outside screamin at me... and i mean... im only 21... but i still dont stand for people disrespecting me. and me being a boxer. i know what im capable of. and if someone is going to be irresponsible and try to start shit... then the consequences they shall suffer

Not getting off the subject, but becareful. The days of "duking it out" are gone. Your chances of being shot or stabbed are greater these days. I know I deal with these pieces of shit everyday.

man i wish somebody would make me wake up in the morning with a good sounding fireblade
..however....well calkidd it was your choice to do this profession wasn't it??and you knew about that before i guess!i really respect "policeguys" cause most of them really try to make their job as good as possible..and even risk their lives every day for others safety!but as soon as one of "them" thinks he has to tell me how i have to ride my bike or they are after me cause i have a bike wich gets too much attention and is illegal (in swiss everything is illegal) its over with my respect, that is just in my human nature, but just because i want my freedom!however i have a good friend wich is a police officer also..and i would never ever expect him to thread me different if he would catch me,just cause we are friend's.and i know he wouldnt .how about you calkidd..would you thread a good friend different if you are in your police car and (just for example) would get into a pursuit with him???

Would I treat a friend differently, like preferential treatment? That is hard to say, depending on the circumstances. As for getting in a pursuit, most like not. All of my friends are not like that where is they would put themself's in a position like that.

Comming back to the revving subject, i would NEVER rev the bike in cold.
Just let the bike warm a little and ride it slowly, until the temp is OK. In my 97RRV i wait until the temp indicator starts to go up, and i ride it at 2000/2500 RPM until it reaches the white band (as indicated in the owners manual) If Honda says it, why donīt believe it ??? thatīs why a synthetic oil will help a lot when cold. Synthetic oil will stick in your moving parts and cylinders, so youīll have better protection. Engines were built to run hot, so warm it a little before diring hard or revving it. And regarding the loud CBR at morning, just think about a 1 1/2 year boy, sleeping in the early morning, and wakes up crying with its eyes wide open just because of the sound of a Fireblade... mmmhhh, I respect my neighbors and also ask for respect. Nothing personal, but a loud exhaust making a big noise (even if its a Fireblade) while others try to rest its not correct from my point of view. This last week my neighbors went on vacations and leave two sons (almost 19 and 22 years old) at home. They put a huge sound equipment at their car, and put volume really up (hearing 50 cents "io, io, its your birthday......") while my little son was sleeping. I ask them to put it down and they did. Its about respecting, thatīs all. If you have to go out early in the morning, just let the engine warm up without revving it, and after one or two minutes go out slowly, so youīll avoid problems. And avoiding problems its always better .Calkidd is right, you can be a boxer, a profesional kickboxing figther or a karate specialist, but a gun can win and you never know. Life is violent at these days. Just remember that. Take care
