View Full Version : Installing Cam Chain Tensioner

I just bought a APE CCT and am getting ready to install it. It says to screw the tensioner untill there is between 1/4" and 3/8" deflection in the chain. What do I use to measure this, is there a special tool? And how often does this thing need to be checked and adjusted?? May be a stupid question but if I screw this up I can really F up the engine. Thanks

had one in my f4i for 1200 high rpm track miles and haven't had to touch it yet. the guy that put it in said to put a "moderate amount of pressure" on it, then start it up, and loosen it until it starts to rattle, then tighten up just a hair until the noise goes away. i was there when he did it, looked easy enough. i would eyeball the deflection, there's no way to measure it in there.

So I don't have to remove the valve cover to check the deflection?? Thanks;)
