As long as I've had my 900 the shifting has been heavy/ high effort. It has never popped out of gear though. I didn't notice how heavy it was until I got my 954, which is smooth as butter and snick into each gear with almost no effort at all. What causes high shift lever effort....worn forks, fork rod, shift drum?? What needs to be done so my 900 shifts more like my 954???:CONF

Is it heavy like it feels as though the clutch cable isn't sliding smoothly? Or do you mean just the amount of effort to pull the lever?

I might be missing something, but maybe lighter clutch springs and/or a really good cable lube or replace?

I know it -shouldn't- be hard to shift. All of the 900RRs were highly rated in magazines and shootouts for their trannys... :CONF

Am I oversimplifying it? Dennis? Any idears?

this is hard to diagnose with out a test ride but i would do factory performance's EVO SHIFT IMPROVER KIT and i would replace the forks, shift rod (the one the forks ride on) and maybe the shift drum. in all about 200 bucks and yes even jawhn can do the change. real easy to do.

i won't get into specifics right now but if you want to do this i will "talk" you through it.
