    Default Clutch basket swap?? Help

Hey guys, the clutch basket in my 97RR is toast. Does anyone know if I can put in a 98RR basket. Did they change from 97 to 98-99 ? I may have a 98 doner engine.
    Thanks.

the basket should be the same....it is the primary gear that may be different.

So, it wouldn't fit? I need to know if I can just install it in there.

if the gear is different then no unless you can remove the gear from your old one.

i am not positive on this....the best way is to put the baskets side byside and count the teeth and messure the diameter of the gear....if it matches then it should work..

Yeah, I know what you mean. I would like to know for sure before I buy the 98 engine.

I just got through going through all of this stuff.. on the 893 motors the crank has a 1 piece sproket and the clutch basket has a split gear on it looking like 2 pieces. Honda did this to make the motor noice quiter. On the 919 motors the crank has a split gear or 2 piece and the clutch hub is a 1 piece. All 919 motors will use the same clutch hub I do believe that will be from a 96 to a 99.
That is the reason if you put a 919 crank in a 893 casing you have to use the complete clutch set up to make it work. And you can not take the gears off they are permantly on there... I tried that also.. I hope this all will help you...

Well, thanks for the info. Still not convinced it will match. I won't spend $800 on a motor and instead, I will buy the proper basket for $150. Unless I change my mind by tomorrow.

Not true, the 97 clutch basket is wider than the 98. The gear is the same. If u don't know what u are talking about - then dont write!

The 98 clutch basket WILL NOT! Fit the 97!
