I paid $4500 for my 97 CBR900RR this past June, since then, I've spent about $1000 on mods and needs:

    • tires
    • chain
    • sprockets
    • signal markers
    • double bubble windscreen
    • mirrors
    • lock & chain

Also, since this is my first bike in 10 years, I also had to spend a bit (about $1000) on gear for my wife and I:

    • 2 helmets
    • 2 jackets
    • 2 pairs of gloves
    • 1 pair of riding boots

I still need to buy a suitable pair of riding pants.

    Oh. My. Crap.

This is the dreaded question I never wanted to answer or even consider.

Um. Let's see how much of my memory remembers cost (USD of course) of stuff on my "unmodded" bike...

$7200 - 1998 bike, bought almost brand new (1K miles) in 2000 from Illinois.
$200 - Yoshi Carbon Fiber RS-3 exhaust can
    - Not gonna figure in tires, batteries, sprockets or oil... These are all general maintenance things. I upgraded my plugs to iridium but am still leaving off of list.
$750 - Complete carbon fiber bodywork, bought piece-by-piece on eBay (as far as I know these are next to impossible to find now)
$250 - Replacement gas tank after crash
$140 - Carbon fiber tank I just bought, hasn't arrived yet
$60 - Replacement aluminum mirror stay bracket after crash
$200 - Misc. carbon fiber bits here and there
$50 - Original frame sliders that were red that faded to orange REAL fast...
$40 - Aluminum frame sliders after crash
$50 - I think - Replacement radiator, still to be installed
$55 - Speedo Healer, still to be installed
    $35 - Aluminum footpegs
$45 - Tristan's LED passenger pegs mod (Still in my opinion to best the best mod value EVER)
    $36 - LED brake lights
$45 - Dark smoke windscreen after crash
$25 rear wheel axle after crash

    $9,231 or so far...

And then if we are counting gear...

$175 - Original Dainese leather suit, used off of eBay, ugly as sin but did its job, twice. Can't say anything bad about Dainese except price when new
$570 - New GP Leathers one-pice suit. Came with a free pair of hands!
    $60 - HJC LT-12 helmet
    $100 - HJC CL-10 helmet
$140 - "Slick TK-8" KBC helmet after crash
$60 - Joe Rocket gloves with CF knuckles
$55 - Joe Rocket gloves after F2 crash and currently using
$85 - Alpinestars boots, used off of eBay

    $1,245 gear

Damn. That's not as bad as I thought it was gonna be. I have to missing something... I figured I've doubled the cost of the bike, but nowhere near that. Hmmm.

For you or her??? I have a set I have been trying to sell now for a while??? PM me if interested I will give you more details that way.

Mine, bike was 9555.00 Out The Bloody Door, brand new in 1999!!! Then I have lost count on how much I have bought, modded, mangled, replaced, upgraded and such so I will just say about another 3000.00 max into it. Then riding aparrel and safety stuff I have paid about 3000.00 in gear for me and the woman. So in 7+ years I have shelled out more than 15000.00 for me!! Not too bad give or take about a thousand???
Life shouldn't be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, cigar in one hand, beer in the other, body used up, totally worn-out and screaming, "WOO HOO, what a ride!"

That is hard to tell, but I will try to remember.....

    $ 5,500.00 bucks for a 2002 954 with 1,200 miles on it.
$ 1,000.00 on parts after crashing it...I did the labor...
$ 1,300.00 on re-treading the head after I messed it up
changing my plugs, including major tune up.
$ 265.00 on brand new tires michelins 2 weeks ago.

plus spark plugs, chains and sprockets, oil, coolant, etc...and I'm sure I am forgetting a lot more.

Wow, since this is all recent, it should not be too tough:

97 900RR, completely disassembled with clean title $1,900.00
2-Bros. Exhaust can (bike did not come with one) $100.00 used
Bridgestone Battlax BT014 tires (both) $100.00 used
Various bearings and hardware that were either bad or missing $300.00 new (Honda s*** is expensive)
Rear tail light bezel and center tail section piece (original were in bad shape) $30.00 used
New grips, flushmounts and short stalk turn signals $45.00
Powdercoated swing arm with new bearings $50.00 used
    Battery $45.00 new
Coolant, oil, and oil filter $90
Just ordered new inner clutch basket, clutch springs, and gaskets $105.00

For gear, I still have my Arai Signent helmet and riding jacket that I bough a long time ago (don't remeber the price)
Just bought Joe Rocket Mercury gloves $18.00 on Ebay, NEW (waiting on them to come in)

I still have to buy new fork seals & fork oil, and tax, tags, insurance before I can start riding this thing. All labor has been done by a shade tree mechanic with a garage (me). Some time in the not-so-near future, I'll repaint it too.

    Ohhh....that's a good question.

The biggest win I had was in buying my bike. I got a bike worth $20K for $3800! Then I poured money into it..

    $680 TBR full system
    $520 Australian headlight
    $800 paint for above
    $400 powdercoating
    $650 99 bodywork
    $200 04 Gixxer 1K tail
$1200 954 front end conversion with RC51 wheel
    $230 Pilot Power tires
    $200 BST Carbon fender
$1200 Braking Wave rotors front and rear, pads
    $900 Single sided swinarm
    $150 Corbin seat
    $100 2 x windscreens
    $130 new brake/clutch levers
    $330 mischellaneous bits and pieces
    $160 520 kit
    $250 racing rearsets

    $8,100 total (i'm sure there's more money I haven't thought of), plus the bike...= $11,890.

And then there's the cost of my labor!!

On a positive note, I guess some of this spend has been offset by about $1000-1500 by me selling off the old gear off my bike (ie. 16" front, forks, bodywork, screen, rear wheel, seats, lights etc).

I paid $3,500 for my 929 last year (wrecked with a clean title) I have around $1,000 into rebuilding and you can’t even tell. Partly because all the parts are new oem that were broke

    Came with
    • Factory Pro BMC "Race" Filter
    • Ignition advance
    • Short Stacks
    • EVO-7 Detent Star Kit
    • Micron slip on
    • Power commander

    I think I got a great deal.

...can't tell... That you're rebuilding it, or that it was ever wrecked?

That it was wrecked. Most expensive part was the upper faring off ebay $320 nos (new old stock). Bought it from a buddy that crashed it while he was drunk and got a DWI, to top it off he broke his back in the crash(endo over the handle bars and doesn’t remember what happed after until he woke up in the hospital).

I'm actually looking to get a specific pair for me. Since I have a Fieldsheer Attack jacket, I'd like to get a pair of Fieldsheer pants that zip to the jacket.

    Oh, it's an auction now?

So far, Gixerkiller is "winning" with 15K I think. Maybe we should vote on categories like Best Value for Price Paid, Most Spent, Least Spent, Most Cosmetic, Most Engine Work, etc?

I've been wondering how much I'd ever be able to get for mine if I sold it... Probably not much, which is sad, and why I'll probably have it forever. Plus it's pretty sweet looking and has more power than I know what to do with anyway...

I feel the same way, that's why I bought an older CBR. I don't need the latest & greatest. I keep up just fine with those on the modern superbikes, since I don't track ride. (yet)

No no..no auction lol just curious as you never get any of the money back if you want to sell which takes a lot of the fun out of it after you are done with it..i just realised how the prices of these bikes are very low on the second hand market and they depreciate like hell..which is sad!
Also wanted to know if i was alone in the boat of expenses

    Can't remember exact prices but here goes...in AUD (1$US = 0.789c AU)

    Purchase $6500
    CF clamp cover $25
    Indicators $50
    Ergo Seat $125
    Ohlins $450
    Damper $650
    Ignition Advance $100
    APK $200
    Rear sets $200
    Cycle computer $20
    Braided lines $150
    End Can $150
    954 Forks $336
    954 Alxe $54
    SP1 Rim $568
    954 Heli-bars $200
    954 Axle spacers $20
    954 Switch gear (RHS) $44

Yet to buy to complete conversion

954 Discs $450 (ish if new)
    954 Switch (LHS) $45
    Gauages $100
Speedo sener & sprocket cover??? Dunno... $100?

Say about $10500AUD ($13309USD)... Man I could have bought a 1000RR for that much! Dam...

I might get a $1k if I sell off the front end but I won't. If/when I come to sell it I will put the OEM front back on and sell the 954 stuff separately... I think.

Maybe I'll throw it on Ebay with a high starting bid and see what happens.
