You should have waited on the seals and just replaced the fluid. CUZ NOW that you have just changed them the "bike gremlins" have now figured you just jinxed yourself and they are going to leak.
Life shouldn't be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, cigar in one hand, beer in the other, body used up, totally worn-out and screaming, "WOO HOO, what a ride!"

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I thought the fluid would be super stinky since it's been in there for nearly ten years, but it wasn't that bad. I was torn between leaving the seals in but then I figured since I was going to all the trouble, might as well change the seals as well.

Got a new battery and a tool (multimeter) for testing the electrical system on the bike. Find out why/where the short circuits are.

I should install the new Barnett clutch set tomorrow in my 900. Wish i had the $55 to do my oil change. I wish synthetic oil was cheaper than dino oil.

Nothing at all, just got home yesterday from a week in ALabama. But I did get the "684 pc. polished stainless steel bolt kit" that I bought for $104 off of ebay "new" and it looks pretty good.about a wk ago I mocked up the 04 gsxr tail minus the pass. seat brackets.

I"m going out now to put the newer? passenger pegs on my '98.

When I bought it I didn't know() that the rear pegs were supposed

to have a spring in them that kept them flipped up.

I finally found a set for cheap on ebay, got'em and am now going out

    to put 'em on.

I'm also going to have to have a word with my service people!

I'm gonig to have to put it on the charger before going for a ride

    this afternoon.

I mean these service people who leave keys on and walk away

just frost me in my own garage no less!

I bought a set of those cheap eBay passenger foot pegs also.. they wouldn't work because there was no way to attach the spring or plates that come with the oem pegs.. so i left the oem ones on.

I'm going to remove the pegs and brackets all together probably next week.

I fixed my electrical system today so that was cool.

I want an exhaust can now.. aftermarket Micron, Akrapovic or something nice. I have a good oem header to put on my bike once i buy new copper gaskets for it. Some guy rear ended my bike and bent up my current exhaust can and header. I just want something that sounds good and looks good.

What year is your bike again? I have Rob's old titanium V&H can that fits older years. Maybe we can do a trade for the carbon tank work?

Yep, I finished the swap of the passenger pegs

    and went for a ride!

I've got a D & D slip on can that would require clamping on to

the exhaust pipe if your interested.

Woot Woot I finally finished up my 02-03 R1 tail conversion. Still some finishing work needed to be done to clean up inner brackets, and fig out how to make the solo cowl fit tighter so it doesn't wiggle the little bit it does. But for now it's good to go. I also installed a new upper. Dang I'm proud lol. And last but not least to thanx Bodean for hookin me up with the parts to do this.

    That's slick as snot!

On a scale of 1-10, how difficult was this mod? Crazy hard or just a few redrillings/brackets made?

(Did you do a write-up? I don't think so, if so, I wanna see it!!!)

It's an oiling issue. When I get it together this time (997) I'm going to do the pressure relief mod to it (.020 thicker washer). This is supposed to keep oil pressure higher at idle and help with the problem. If you have ever had an oil pressure gauge hooked up to your bike, it would scare the hell out of you how low it gets at idle with warm engine. If it works, I'll be glad to do a write up on it.

what about the oil pressure going too high at high rpm's? enough to do damage to any gaskets or such? make the oil foamy perhaps?

997 dang.. that's a lot.. got a cylinder wall left

I'm just a curious old fart (36) not trying to make trouble

THE R1 TAIL FAIRING MOD... what driver seat is that you are using?? I want to get rid of my oem seat and get something more modern. That tail looks good on there.. nice job on the upper swap too.

I got all my info from Elton Fish. Elton knows his sheet for sure. He did the turbo work for Kent Stotz's first blackbird (remember the red one?). He told me it would still dump the pressure at high rpm's. If it doesn't work, it's no trouble to return to stock. As for the 997...the block itself gets bored and new sleeves installed, then bored for the 74's. (and I'm 42)

    Hey you're no kid yourself

Stotz..yeah i have heard of him. Do you know of any companies ( besides Honda oem) that sell a stock bore head gasket for a 893 engine? Honda wants like $65 and i was wondering if anyone has them for less maybe.

Red Blackbird... those look so hot.. i would love to own a stock Blackbird. I would drive that sucker all over the USA.

I am using the full R1tail including the R1 rider's seat. It sits lower than the rr. Haven't decided which is more comfy yet.
