how to install gsxr 1000 tail on 900 RR

hi folks, due to many questions about the tail i've decided to make an thread on how to install the sucker.

So before you want to do all the work you have to buy all the parts you need:

- one piece of gsxr 1000 k3-k4 tail section
- tail light
- undertail with built in signals
- passenger seat and lock with cable
- seat cowl (if you wanna ride alone)

oh yeah and proper tools: angle cutter, grinder and all the tools you need to strip the bike down.

Ok, let's begin.

1. strip the back end of your bike

2. get rid of all the mounting tabs that you don't need, and remove the forward mounting plate of the passenger seat.

3. cut the end of subframe in angle to make room for the narrow end of the gsxr tail and then fit the tail for the first time to se how it gets in there.

4. you have to get rid of the extra plastic you don't need from the tail section:

next drill the 2 holes to bolt the back end of the tail (shown in 3rd picture)

oh and it's to droopy, for me it didnt work that way so i decided to go forward

i removed the subframe and went to a local shop to bent and weld it

so this is wat i got out of it ( not powder coated - next to come)

so for the lock actuator i used 2 long screws in order to adjust it the way i want. it's stiff enough i took my wife as passenger and nothing happened , anyway most of the time i ride with solo cowl (pic 1 and 2)

in the previous reply i forgot to mention that you have to weld a piece of aluminium plate for relocating the rectifier. sorry about that (pic no 3, you can spot it in pic 2 upper right)

so as you can see in pic 3 i used the original battery tray and cut off the back ( trunk ? )

so all you have to do is to fit the tail light with 3p conector on the harness on your bike and fit the undertail with minor adjustment on the lower end.

so finally the fittment of the seats and back to the stripping for the paint job. (pic 1 & 2)

Did you have to cut the subframe and move it like this or was this just something you wanted to do? Also where you mounted the new lock for the seat is that still in the original place I cant really tell? Thanks

i wanted to cut and bet it upward because the tail wasn't in the right angle. and the plate were i mounted the seat lock was moved toward the back.

sorry for all the questions but is the undertail a have to have piece or can that be added down the line I just got my tail section and seat cowl and im going to get a new subframe just so i can keep riding until its done but anyways can the undertail wait? thanks alot

in my case i had to use the gsxr aftermarket undertail, because i used half of the 900rr battery tray (cut down after CDI see pic). But if you want to use the gsxr battery tray u won't have to buy now the aftermarket undertail, but is a little more work to do.
